18 September 1961
All 4 members of the Indian Gal 51 crew were killed during the fly-in at the end of HS-6’s 1961 deployment. The cause of the crash has never been definitively resolved.

AX-1 Tom Goen
AX1 Tom Goen was killed while 1st crewman of the SH-3A he was in crashed on take off from the USS Coral Sea (CVA-43) during the transfer of SAR Det 1 assets back to the USS Kearsarge.

AK-1Kenneth Edwards was killed in a shipboard fire aboard the USS Kearsarge (CVS-33) as it was entering Sasebo, Japan Harbor
